Emily Cauble, BS
I graduated with my Bachelor's in Biological Sciences from Chapman University and am currently pursuing my Master's in Public Health Biology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. As a pre-medical student throughout my undergraduate degree, I was driven to get excellent grades and nearly destroyed myself to achieve this level of perfection that I only later found out was impossible to achieve. After experiencing my post-graduation existential crisis of ‘I don’t want to be a doctor anymore’, I decided to dabble into the world of research. I have worked on various research projects involving liver disease, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer. As a scientist, the biggest lesson I have learned is to embrace the fact that I don't know everything. It took me a long time to realize that not knowing everything is exactly what humanity is about. If we knew everything about ourselves, where would we be as a society and who would we become? For me, this endless lack of knowledge that I have is what drives my desire to learn even more: the good, the bad, and everything in between. Through my research, I have always felt this desire to bring my bench top work out of the lab and into the communities where this work matters. To further pursue my passion for science communication, I became certified in the Art of Science Communication, and I later became an instructor for the class. Because of my passion and desire to relight the curiosity flame in our world, Humility in Humanity was born.
